Day 2 - Workshops
One of the comments I kept hearing from Interstate
and overseas guests were
how the Workshops were so well organised and so effective. I myself
tried
very hard to participate in as many workshops as I could, although
my
feet were protesting violently. But comfortable shoes did seem to
keep
them quiet for a while. So much to learn, and so little time, gave
no time
to rest. Water was supplied regularly, Instructors were very content
with
the layout of the timetables and when even the Koreans admitted
to the
this being and I quote: 'We thought we have the best Organised Congress….
but we were wrong". Better than the Asians? Now there's something
to be proud of,
wouldn't you agree? If you had the chance to do Ryoko & Ryu's Workshop,
you
would have beared witness to such precision, kindness and subtlety,
only the Japanese
are capable of. And with even a few hiccups in the language barrier,
this couple still proved
to "get the message across" keeping everyone keen and interested
until the very end.
And then there are people like Henry Herrera from Cuba.
The new dance partner to
Edie the Salsa Freak and my God! What does one say about Henry?
A man so full of
passion for life, so high on music and dance, so positive in his
outlook to life… that
he makes us all feel like we could do so much more in life, in any
field we chose,
and such positive energy all around him, you'd want to touch him
in the hope of it
"brushing off" on yourself. From escaping Cuba on a BOAT with absolutely
nothing,
and coming to the US only 5 yrs ago, to becoming a dancer, performer,
actor and
a "must" on Albert Tores's list of Salsa Congress Performers. This
man has achieved
so much, in so little time, that it can only make us cringe in embarrassment.
And yet
so humble in his approach and teaching, and such a natural in everything
his does.
An amazing story teller, a comic, a C.C.C "Cuban Charlie Chaplin"
in his own right,
Henry really did have us in stitches in his workshops, with his
"every day in life"
approach, combined in dance technic. The man truly is truly "a miracle"!
